Study Shows Social Networking Users View Ads Regularly

Contrary to earlier claims that users do not like advertisements in their webpage, a new study showed that online users in Youtube, Facebook, and Twitter do actually check or somewhat have a quick glimpse on ads posted in their space.

According to the survey conducted by digital marketing firm Oneupweb, some 65 percent of the respondents have checked or engaged with several sponsored ads.

The time span for each view lasted for 10 seconds on every search.

Oneupweb CEO and founder Lisa Wehr said that the respondents, aged 18 to 55, are most likely to look at the advertisements once it starting popping out of their webpage.

Ads on Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube were commonly viewed, though in a relatively small period of time.

“Once these ads begin to pop out or appear in their space, users are almost always starts to look at it,” Wehr said, adding that these online users look at the ads particularly those is their search page.

“They will look at the ads in their search box before going straight to the results,” she said.

The survey was conducted to some 25 regular Facebook members aged 18 to 55.

Special software that uses eye-tracking technology were fitted to their computers to monitor their behavior while surfing the three social networking sites.

Oneupweb also found that the “natural eye movement” of users is contrary to what the supposed order of the natural path when search results are displayed.

“Most of the times, users glimpse at the ads first before the next three organic search results,” said Wehr.

Users also take time to view sponsored ads as one of the organic search results and 50 percent of the respondents expressed satisfaction with the brand search on Twitter.
