MySpaces Encourages Members to Use Their Real Names
MySpace, one of the biggest social networking sites, has encouraged its members to use their real names. This move is in response of the constant criticism it gets because of the site’s feature which hides the names of people, making it difficulty for some people to make intimate correspondence.
Because of the popularity of websites which has social features, nowadays, it is more ideal to have online accounts associated with real names. And since most third part sites only allow people to log in using their real identities, the latest move of MySpace may be helpful to attract more members.
The company is trying to jump in to the bandwagon of third party site, which has already been adopted by Facebook with its feature called Facebook Connect. Another Internet giant which has adopted this trend is Google that has built partnership with Twitter.
According to MySpace, the company is now looking for partners to initiate a new project called MsSpaceID which is formerly known as Data Availability.
The new feature of MySpace requires users to disclose their real names when they will add friends from their list. Meanwhile, this new feature will be more advantageous because people can know the real names of individuals who are trying to add them up.
MySpace was first introduced in 2004. And just after one year, media mogul Rupert Murdoch decided to purchase the social networking site.
Today, MySpace has over 110 million active users worldwide and has been one of the most trafficked websites on the Internet. And because 85 percent of its members belong to voting age (18 years and older), the site not just have tremendous social impact on the Internet, but also in politics.
