On Thursday, a hacker that goes by the name “Cyxymu” implemented a command called “denial-of-service” attack, which is commonly used by hackers to direct a number of computers into an individual website all at the same time.

This move slows down the system and prevents legitimate internet users traffic from logging in or getting through the site.

IT experts believe that the recent attack to Twitter was related to the ongoing political dispute between Russia and Georgia. But authorities still can’t find the origin of the attack give the political situation in the country.

Twitter’s service provider, NTT America Enterprise Hosting Services said that the attacks continued on Friday coming from thousands of computers all over the world that caused the servers to lag.

The company said that the first wave of attack was like a dynamite of spam email messages sent by Cyxymu that redirected traffic to various social networking sites.

The second phase, which caused the most of the destruction, was the denial-of-service. It was allegedly done by the hacker to flood the system and prevent the people from reading views of other people about the country’s situation.

Some 20.1 million unique Twitter users were temporarily blind for two hours. Users range from celebrities, politicians, and ordinary people.

Thousands of heavy “tweet” users are now threatening to find another social networking service should the incident happen again.

Twitter and its partners are now looking for ways on how to patch the hole in the system, saying that they are doing everything that they can to prevent it from happening again.
