Fugitive Who Has Facebook Fansite Caught By Police

A 47-year-old fugitive who has inspired fans in the popular social networking site was finally arrested on Wednesday after eluding authorities for 105 days.

The “Facebook” fugitive identified as William Stewart was caught by responding policemen in the rural area of Canterbury, South Island of New Zealand, after being spotted by a local farmer while trying to steal his truck early morning on Wednesday.

Combined operatives of local police and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) members immediately conducted an area sweep that led to the arrest of the suspect.

Stewart was clad in a shirt and pants while sporting a bearded and long hair look to avoid detection for more than three months.
New Zealand authorities claimed that the suspect was a drug dependent and a heavy methamphetamine user. Authorities also said that he is a career criminal, with only one thing in mind.

The hunt for Stewart has inspired Facebook users to put up a fansite in the website, line of tee-shirt printing, and even composed a song for the hardened criminal.

Facebook users have chronicled all his sightings and movements around the South Island for over a hundred days, which disappointed police.

In one case, a home owner believed to have been “visited” by Stewart was inspired to write a song entitled “Billy the Hunted One”, which is also the words that the suspect carved onto the dining table after stealing food.

Others, meanwhile, tried to make some money from the heist by selling T-shirts with a “Where’s Billy?” print on it.

The hunt, which started on February 10, stemmed from a resisting arrest case where Stewart threatened to plumb a police officer with a metal bar.

Reports told that Stewart surrendered “quietly” to the arresting officers looking relieved. One of the officers, quoting the fugitive, even said, “I have had a good run”.
