Experts Say Social Platform is the New Email
Social sites are the most popular online properties that people have started using these as their new email accounts, according to some communication experts.
The advantage of using social platforms is that users can share micro-updates to other people and utilize interactive tools such as photo and profile comments, private messages, bulletin board, and group messages.
Because people are increasingly becoming more web-centric consumers, many businesses have already tapped the lucrative market of social networking. One of the most popular among these is Facebook which boasts more than 175 users worldwide, with majority of members coming from North America.
Experts said that Facebook’s unprecedented popularity is due to its simple but highly-interactive tools that allow users to have real-time updates such as status sharing and activity feeds—features which are not found in email accounts.
Because many millions of people are active members of social sites, many industries have also joined the online property to target a broader audience.
Online experts also said that social platforms have changed the way people communicate. Few years ago, users can send email messages to others without knowing if their friends would like to receive the content, a far outcry from today’s social sites which allows only interested users to view the public messages, experts added.
While social networking allows more open communication among users, security experts warn people to use such online properties more carefully and responsibly as these often lack with privacy unlike emails.
And with the popularity of online community sites, there has also been a steady increase of hackers, fraudster, and identity thieves who are believed to profit millions if not billions of dollars annually through illegal activities.

Not sure I agree with this at all.
Emails are much more targeted and aimed at a particular person with the assumption that they are interested in the content.Public messages on social networking sites are seen by everybody (depending on privacy settings, of course)whether they are interested or not. Who are these experts?
