West, in a posting on his website, said that joining social networking websites like Facebook and Twitter will help him connect with his fans and interact with them personally.

On Tuesday, the RnB superstar visited the office of Facebook in Palo Alto, California to preview some of the materials, which will be included in the special page in the social networking site.

West then performed a rap song an in front of Facebook employees and officials, which was uploaded on Youtube. On the video, the singer was seen rapping while standing on top of the conference table.

West, who figured in several rants against other singers like Taylor Swift, also took the chance to thank the Facebook management for the support that they have given to him in his new album.

“Your energy was a gift so electric, so genuine, that it really helped me give my best,” West said in his posting on his official website.

The new album, which remained untitled as of posting, is expected to be released on September 14 this year.

Meanwhile, sought for comment, Facebook spokesperson remained mum over the development of the webpage for the RnB singer.

It will be recalled that West suffered a major fallback in his career after ranting against Taylor Swift during the MTV Music Awards. Several fans and fellow artists expressed disappointment over his “childish” rants, which some called “racist” and “insensitive.”

With the release of the new album, West, according to some of his hardcore fans, will shut his critics and will retain his status as one of the top artists in the music industry.

In an interview, TripAdvisor founder and chief Steve Kaufer said that the Facebook-based travel advisory will be the next big thing for the website.

“Ten years ago, we have revolutionized travel planning when we launched the website. Now, the next major leap forward is to get travel advisories from your friends on Faceboook,” Kaufer added.

In 2000, TravelAdvisor become a huge hit among travelers looking for travel guides and agents online. Most of the contents of the website rely on user-generated tips about airline companies, hotels and restaurants, and other travelers’ needs.

“It will be like asking your friend for a plumber. Instead of offering wisdoms of crowds, the service will offer wisdom of your Facebook friends,” he added.

He added that the new service will allow Facebook users to plan and to identify “good” finds for their vacation by clicking the application called “Cities I’ve Visited.”

Users can view photos and read articles about the places that their Facebook friends have visited and ask them for further details.

TripAdvisor is the busiest travel website in the world with more than 34 million unique hits every month. It also has over 35 million reviews and opinions from various travelers about the different places that they have visited.

The company hopes to further enhance its services with the launch of the new Facebook application.

To date, the TravelAdvisor has 730 employees.

The company website operates with 14 languages and offers advertising opportunities to hotel and restaurants around the world.

In a statement, Yahoo said that its users will have to personally turn the link to avail of the services, which include regular updates on Yahoo shoutouts and other services such as photo-sharing on Flicker.

“The new features were part of the makeover that we have announced last year,” Yahoo said in the statement.

The company hopes to attract more users into their e-mail services and other website features through the Facebook tie-up.

It will be recalled that Yahoo users significantly trimmed down e-mail usage, prompting Yahoo to take action. The Internet giant has over 600 million users but the numbers keep on dropping progressively over the past three years.

“One of the main reasons we see for the fall in Yahoo usage is the proliferation of social networking sites like Facebook, where people can now exchange emails, music, and video clips.

But with the inclusion of these Facebook features in Yahoo websites, we hope to bring them back into using traditional email services,” a Yahoo official who refused to be named said.

“More visitors will stay on Yahoo if they can simultaneously monitor what’s happening on Facebook,” the official added.

Yahoo, the same with other websites, is banking on the number of people using their services to be able to sell online advertisements, which is the main source of revenue of the company.

Aside from the update capabilities, Yahoo said that it will also begin to feature Internet games that can be found on Facebook such as “Farmville,” “Mafia Wars” and “Fishville,” made by Zynga.

Experts at Pew Internet said that the trend has gone against the conventional wisdom where adults used to lecture kids about their habits on the Internet.

“This is definitely surprising for us. It is now adding fuel to arguments that the youth has now become the ‘gurus’ to older generation Internet users.

They are now the ones teaching them about online reputation management, particularly in social networking websites like Facebook and Twitter,” a Pew Internet official said in an interview.

One of the most common advices being given by the younger people to the adults is how to limit their personal information being shared online. The youth also has more knowledge about their privacy options while using online networking services.

Many of the young adults who have social networking accounts are now scouring their profiles to remove unwanted and explicit contents that would prevent them from getting the jobs they want.

The youth said that while their public profile in their respective neighborhood will not hurt them, their social networking accounts can certainly give the wrong signals to the people who might see their pictures – including their potential employers.

According to Pew Internet, this topic has been disregarded by many adult users and has now taken its toll to many unemployed people looking for new jobs, saying that employers are looking to a person’s social networking account once he applied for a job.

Pew Internet and American Life Project hoped to bring the idea to millions of adult social networking users to help them gain more and suffer less when they log-in on their accounts.

The Seesmic App was earlier released for Research in Motion’s Blackberry and other Android-based Smartphones, giving many iPhone users something to envy.

The application works by making social networking simple. It offers users customizable spaces that they can use to link their searches, shoutouts, trends, and topic list to all their social networking accounts under one program.

Users can also link their Facebook and Twitter accounts to Ping.FM, which was acquired by Seesmic in the first quarter of 2010, to be able to update multiple social networking sites.

The iPhone version of the application shows the main splash screens that are made accessible to the users through an icon placed in the upper left corner. Users can also swipe between spaces to navigate the App.

Aside from the said feature, the new Seesmic application allows iPhone users to integrate their files through file-syncing application called Evernote.

Access to Evernote allows users, without Instapaper or Read it Later support, to store messages for later reference to avoid inbox clutter.

However, several technology experts said that the application has several outdated features like pull-to-refresh option. It also failed to include a contact database and updating feature can only give users harder time by connecting to a built-in link.

But the experts said that Seesmic will figure out something to make the application more worthy for many iPhone and iPad users in the near future, saying that the initial launching was just a test run for many developments in the application.

Twitter, however, said that they have already fixed the problem.

Based on earlier reports, the flaw in the website allowed users to add the people as followers to their tweets even if the person does not apply for it. It is usually the “followers” who should subscribe for such tweet, not the other way around.

Meanwhile, Twitter officials said that they have no idea how long the problem had existed and how many users have taken advantage of the situation.

Twitter also said that they are now investigating the problem, saying that they would imply the necessary actions to prevent another incident.

Millions of Twitter users were caught by surprised when they saw their accounts have no followers. But Twitter immediately informed the users that the side effect was part of the overhaul in its system and has restored order after an hour.

Thousand of people have already exploited the glitch in the Twitter system by having famous people and celebrities as their fans. Many of them even boasted about their accomplishments, but were cut short when the social networking giant fixed the problem.

Meanwhile, the company has advised their users to immediately “unfollow” those accounts that they did not personal added to theirs.

During the unveiling of the Spindex at the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco, California, Microsoft FUSE Labs general manager Lili Cheng said that the new software will help users to pull together social streams from different social networking websites like Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace, allowing users to easily peruse data.

“Social networking today is a very powerful and compelling aspect of the Internet. However, it is still at the beginning of its broader transformation and has the huge potential to change in every aspect not only of its form, but also of the entire World Wide Web,” Cheng added.

“With this in mind, we have tried to focus in the personalization of social networking and computing. Every time you send out tweets, post updates in Facebook, and capture different ideas with tools like Evernote, we are here to help users like you to know the right information that is meaningful and at the right time,” she added.

Cheng noted that the Spindex tool is especially designed based on the users’ preference making it easier for them to view personalized topics. It also cuts time searching for a particular topic.

However, the Microsoft official did not say when users can preview the “more advance” features of the Spindex tool or the date that it will be openly released to the public.

But she said that users will be notified if the updated version is already available at Spindexme Twitter page.

In a statement, RIM chief information officer Robin Bienfait said that the company is now handling over a billion e-mail messages every day. He added that a huge chunk of the electronic data traffic goes to the use of social networking.

Based on the RIM record, the highest growth rate in its system traffic goes to BBM at 650 percent.

Meanwhile, application downloads registered over 400 percent and web browsing at 291 percent.

Facebook got 155 percent of the traffic while business e-mails, which is the supposed bread and butter of the Blackberry device, only got 126 percent.

“It is very surprising the e-mail message only got 20 percent of the total traffic in the system while Facebook and BBM got the highest scores from the people using the device,” Bienfait said during her speech at the WES 2010 in Orlando, Florida.

The Blackberry device for many years has been synonymous with e-mails and corporate clients. However, the sudden boom of mobile social networking has forced RIM to provide special market for the youth, which is now overtaking what is originally intended for the device.

Bienfait admitted that they are having a hard time managing the electronic traffic but stressed that the company has been doing a lot of heavy lifting to cope up with the increase in demand.

She added that the RIM, despite the explosion in usage of the Blackberry, will not need additional major infrastructure and systems upgrade. She said that, so far, the entire system can handle a billion more e-mails every day.

“We have the entire system in place and right  now, we are just scaling up,” she added.

AOL made the announcement on Monday, saying that the business opportunity for the website has declined drastically in the last couple of years.

“Bebo, unfortunately, is a business that has been declining and, as a result, would require significant investment in order to compete in the competitive social networking space,” AOL said in a statement.

It will be recalled that AOL paid over 557 million pounds for Bebo, which then had more than 40 million unique users all over the world. The social networking site was very promising back then, forming a younger generation audience compared to its larger rival Facebook and MySpace.

To date, Bebo has only 12.8 million users left worldwide.

With the announcement of the sale, many experts believe that AOL would only be able to fetch a fraction of the price it has paid for the said website.

Experts also believe that the social website is most likely to be closed down rather than being bought by anyone.

“AOL will have a hard time finding a buyer for Bebo, especially with the disappointing turn out of its users for the past years,” a technology expert said.

Bebo is a social networking website that allows its users to create profiles where they can share videos, photos, and messages.

The social networking website also gained momentum in Europe, particularly in the UK, than in the United States.

Based on records, it is still the fourth most popular social networking site in the UK next to Facebook, Youtube, and Twitter.

Meanwhile, Bebo’s following in the US continued to drop as survey companies reported that there are only 5.1 million users as of February 2010, a relatively low turn out compared to more than 209.7 million Facebook users.

In issuing the warning, Swinton cited the alarming increase in number of burglary cases in UK that were related to people posting updates about their properties and vacations in the social networking sites.

The home insurance provider said that many of the criminals are now browsing social networking accounts of people in Facebook and Twitter to see if they can take advantage of the holidays while people were far away from home.

Swinton also said that online users should limit the information they post to social networking accounts like Facebook and Twitter to just their phone numbers and address. More sensitive data should be kept in private to avoid such scenario.

Meanwhile, in a separate statement, the Association of British Insurers said that the danger in the use of social networking has increased further as people posting sensitive information also grew bigger.

They said that some 40 percent Brits has the hobby of posting updates about their holiday vacation. They also said that these people are unwittingly giving away information to the criminal minds lurking online.

Also, one out of every three Brits always post updates about their weekend breaks,

“Posting personal details on social networking sites, such as when you are away on holiday, are advertising your home to thieves which can result in burglaries that could otherwise be avoided. To keep content insurance premiums down, social network users need to be extra careful when revealing personal information,” Steve Chelton, insurance development manager at Swinton said.

Swinton is UK’s largest high street insurance retailer with over 580 branches nationwide.
